Whatever of your views regarding life on other planets might be, the simple truth is that we are not alone on this earth. It is estimated that the human race (or Homo sapiens to scientists and Roadrunner fans) is just one of the approximately 8.7 million species - give or take a few million - that coexist here on earth . The relationships we have with the animals that share our world are as varied and complex as the ones we have with our own kind. I won't drift in to what these relationships can look like here, except to say that animals undeniably impact and inform what it means to be human - so much so that the subjects of many of ancient man's first attempts at artistic expression were animals.
