BEN ADELMAN

KNEW ME BACK WHEN

Much is lost in the vacuum between what was and what is. When connections -- once central and intimate -- are severed, time drifts by and we change. A glimpse from the vantage point of the present gives us perspective on who we are now, and who we are not.

I'M STILL AROUND

Sometimes there is no goodbye; instead the past is lost in increments too tiny to measure. An old friend comes up in conversation, but for whatever reason it's impossible to reconnect. "When we were young you were so close to me. I guess I must have thought that it would always be."
